Hello, my name is Jack Thompson and as a boy growing up in Key West, it wasn’t much of a stretch after reading Robert Lewis Stevenson’s "Treasure Island" to think of myself in those terms. After all, I lived in the Carribean. I was surrounded by beach. The possibilities were endless, right? So beachcombing, drawing treasure maps with signs and secret codes became part of my daily routine. But I wasn’t finding any gold dubloons, pieces of eight or hordes of treasure until one fatefull day, my father, who worked in ship yard (and was well aware of my passion,) brought home an unusual piece of equipment. "It’s a metal detector" he exclaimed! "They were going to throw it out." "I don’t know how it works, or even if it works, but you can fool around with it if you want." That was it! I was hooked!

 

 

Every spare day and hour in my life from that moment on was spent searching for treasure. Throughout my lifetime, the mystery and excitement of shipwrecks and burried treasure have captured my imagination and inspired dreams of becoming a successful treasure hunter. But life and the need to be employed became my reality. So after a proper education, a stint in the military, raising a familly and a career running my own business, I was finally able to get back to the dream. What I had practiced over many years as my part time hobby is now a full time venture and going concern; "Metal Detecting!"

So welcome to the fascinating world of metal detecting exploration and discovery. It’s not quite treasure hunting in the carribean, but it’s the next best thing to being there. So a dream becomes reality and a psuedoscience becomes an adventure. The reward of re-uniting individuals with what they thought was lost forever has become my passion. And I am still thrilled with the prospect of finding something every time I turn on my metal detector!
